Just a quick note…still seeing five inch flues appearing on wood burning stoves throughout Scotland…oft installed by “Highgly qualified” “HETAS” engineers…… who seem to believe that Scotland doesnt have its own building regulations….quick recap of section 3.20.8… for appliances up to 30kw burning any fuel…… 150mm diameter or rectangular/square flues having the same cross sectional area and a minimum dimension not less

Wood Burning Stoves New Rules

By Eoin
Mar 23rd, 2019

There has been a lot of adverse press recently with regard to the influence of wood burning on air quality, and as a consequence a lot of nonsense talked about new rules for woodburning. Customers have told me they are concerned that wood burning stoves may be banned, recalled, or not even sold! OMG! Bit of clarity required, me thinks!

By Eoin
Feb 2nd, 2019

At the moment, stoves sold throughout Europe (Including the UK) must be at least 65% efficient. New EU legislation that we have already signed up to, and are unlikely to opt out of given the current concerns with air quality, will come in to effect in 2022, assuring a MINIMUM efficiency for stoves of 80%. The Stove Industry Alliance (

Once upon a time…all stoves were black…I don’t know if its an urban myth or not, but I recall being told in the early days that this was because Senotherm paint, the heatproof finish applied to stoves was initially only capable of being manufactured in Black. Its that time of year again, spring cleaning and renovating… Your stove is probably looking a bit the worse for wear after the wet soggy winter we have just had, paintwork fading, baffle brick snapped when him indoors thought that huge log would squeeze in, wax still marking the side when Auntie Ethel thought a candle on the top would

Stirling Stove Centre – Stove Supplier

It was with some dismay that I read of the demise of the Stirling Stove Centre this week. The closure appears to be symptomatic of the current dissolution of the high street. As our range of wood burning, solid fuel, oil and gas burning stoves, was similar to the Stirling Stove Centre, we often competed for work in the area.

Sounds like a strange title, I know, but we are asked! No, there is no such thing as smokeless wood! Attempts by manufacturers of wood

Cant help but notice the proliferation of new stove shops throughout the country. Mostly refugees from the now, largely defunct, Biomass industry. Remarkable is the HUGE amount of “Experience” they apparently hold. One shop, that is less than a year old, tells us on its website that it has “Over a hundred years experience in the business” How!? Presumably by
