The regulations governing wood burning stoves and multi fuel stoves in Scotland tend to lag a bit behind other parts of the UK but Scotland usually adopts the regulations and regulated stoves that are approved by DEFRA.

The Stove Industry Alliance ( SIA), with DEFRA and HETAS have set up a scheme for stove manufacturers called Ecodesign Ready, which ensures that stoves that carry the Ecodesign Ready badge comply with government and DEFRA clean air regulations for smoke and particle emmissions .
