Stove Flue Diameters – Scotland

Just a quick note…still seeing five inch flues appearing on wood burning stoves throughout Scotland…oft installed by “Highgly qualified” “HETAS” engineers…… who seem to believe that Scotland doesnt have its own building regulations….quick recap of section 3.20.8… for appliances up to 30kw burning any fuel……

150mm diameter or rectangular/square flues having the same cross sectional area and a minimum dimension not less than 125mm

I.E. The requirement in Scotland for flue diameter on a woodburning stove is 150mm…clear as day!

In England (Document J) it says

125mm diameter or rectangular/square flues having the same cross sectional area and a minimum dimension not less than 100mm for straight flues or 125mm forflues with bends or offsets

But notes that this is ONLY for appliances conforming to DEFRA qualifications…THIS RULE DOES NOT APPLY IN SCOTLAND!
